The database presents data in relation to differentiation in three regional organisations, the EU, ASEAN and Mercosur. The data is of relevance when understanding the institutional responses of these regional organisations vis-à-vis China’s influence since 2014 in foreign direct investment and security issues.
The research question associated with this database asks how differentiated organisations increase, assuming they are able to do so, their resilience or strategic autonomy in relation to China's influence, and how differentiation plays a role in this process. The way in which a regional organisation shapes its institutional dimensions determines its specific ‘differentiation configuration’ which can either be conducive to resilience or to vulnerability.
